about

To celebrate the two year anniversary of the highly sought after cult classic, Welcome to Paradise Lost, Taraka has released a totally destroyed EP of live unplugged demos off the album. Each song was recorded late one night directly onto plexiglass using an antiquated lathe cutting process… Not familiar with lathe cutting? It’s ok. It’s a wildly obscure primitive analog recording technology that predates vinyl. The basic gist is that the music is being cut directly onto the record while it's being played live, kind of like an audio polaroid… a moment frozen in time... no overdubs… no fancy effects… no re-dos. The result are these warm and gritty sonic fossils that feel as though they were unearthed from some dusty crypt and warped by a trailer park trash-fire. Listen closely and you might hear the morse code of the rat king or Christian Marclay’s fingernails. The original records have been destroyed, but these rare digital shells remain, raw and unedited… an intimate, tender, and beautifully bummer celebration of imperfection. Of failure. Of Paradise Lost.

Taraka New York, New York

Since the breakup of the legendary underground cult duo Prince Rama, former frontwoman Taraka started recording songs that sound like the vivid visions of the disturbed daughter of Kate Bush and Johnny Rotten who drank ayahuasca at the gates of Warped Tour ’02, merging bastard elements of outsider-psych, post-edenic grunge, kaleidoscopic punk and post-adolescent angst. ... more
